General Construction, Consulting & Contracting

Practical advice, considered planning and hands-on construction.

Bear & Badger helps homeowners, businesses and local organisations move building projects from an initial idea to an agreed programme of work. Based in Wiltshire and serving the South West, we combine timber craftsmanship with general construction, foundations and external works.

You may have a complete design ready to build, a smaller job that needs a dependable contractor, or an idea that needs practical input before you commit. We shape our involvement around the support your project requires.

Three ways we can help

Construction consulting

Our advice is grounded in how work is actually delivered on site. We can help define the scope, consider materials and buildability, identify access constraints and plan a sensible sequence. This is useful when you need to compare approaches, prepare a clearer brief or understand what should happen next.

Contracting

Where your requirements are already established, we can quote for an agreed package of building work. The quotation sets out the labour, materials, preparation and delivery responsibilities, with any exclusions or client-supplied items clearly identified.

Coordinated project delivery

For work spanning several stages, we can discuss coordination of the agreed construction activities, procurement and relevant trades. The level of oversight is defined to suit the project, so you know who is responsible for each part.

Building services

  • Extensions and outbuildings: practical additional space, timber structures and associated building work.
  • Foundations and bases: preparation and construction for buildings, garden structures and other agreed installations.
  • Carpentry and timber construction: workshop manufacture, framing, fitting and site carpentry.
  • Brickwork and small masonry works: walls, piers, planters and related construction details.
  • External works: fencing, hard standings, garden structures and improvements to outdoor spaces.
  • Repairs and improvement projects: defined packages of remedial work for domestic, community and commercial sites.

Experience across different working environments

Our work includes timber structures for private clients, external improvements for parish council sites and building work in farm settings. These projects call for practical planning around access, existing structures, neighbouring areas and the day-to-day use of the site.

For homeowners, that means considering how work will affect your property. For councils and businesses, it means agreeing the scope, programme and site arrangements clearly before work starts.

Foundations that fit the project

The base of a structure needs as much thought as the visible finish. Ground conditions, levels, drainage, access and the proposed building all influence the solution. We assess these factors and identify where structural or other specialist design is required, while considering how the completed work sits within the landscape.

Clear decisions before construction

We believe good value comes from a well-defined project: the right materials, a realistic sequence and a quotation you can understand. We take time to discuss your priorities and distinguish the essential work from optional upgrades.

  1. Initial discussion: share the location, intended use, outline scope and available budget.
  2. Site review: examine access, levels, interfaces and existing conditions.
  3. Scope development: agree the work, design information and responsibilities.
  4. Written quotation: review inclusions, assumptions, payment stages and the proposed programme.
  5. Delivery: carry out the agreed work, communicate progress and review variations with you.

A small team with direct accountability

Our background spans workshop and site carpentry, general building and blacksmithing. We combine preparation in our Wiltshire workshop with practical problem-solving on site, keeping a personal connection between the people planning the work and those delivering it.

Before you enquire

Do I need drawings already?

No. An outline description is enough to begin a discussion. We can help identify the information needed to develop the scope and obtain any specialist design input.

Can you support planning and building regulations?

We can discuss how the construction work fits around the information and approvals your project requires, and work with your appointed designer or advisers. Responsibility for applications, technical design and inspections is agreed for each project.

Can you quote for only part of a project?

Yes. Tell us which package you want us to deliver and what will be supplied or carried out by others, so the interfaces can be included in the quotation.

Tell us what you want to build

Include the project postcode, a short description, whether you need advice, contracting or both, and your target timescale. Existing drawings and approximate dimensions are helpful if available.
